National Grid has agreed to refund more than $1.5 million to over 4,500 residential gas customers who were charged the wrong rate, according to a release from Attorney General Maura Healey’s office.
Under the agreement, National Grid will issue bill credits to more than 4,500 residential gas customers who were incorrectly charged the company’s non-heating rate instead of the less expensive heating rate. Natural gas customers that exclusively heat their homes with gas, rather than using it for other things such as cooking, pay a lower rate. The agreement negotiated by Healey involves certain National Grid residential heating customers who were incorrectly charged the more expensive non-heating rate.
According to the AG’s office, National Grid has also agreed to make improvements to processing to ensure the correct rate is charged moving forward.
