National Grid Seeks Cut in Natural Gas Rate

One day after NStar announced it would ask state regulators to approve a 16-percent cut in the price it charges for natural gas, National Grid is pushing for a 10-percent reduction for its customers, the utility announced today.

If approved by the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities, residential customers using 160 thermal units per month will see a drop of about $12 in their monthly bill, or roughly 6 percent of their total gas bill.

If the proposed cuts are approved by the DPU, they would take effect Feb. 1. Both NStar and National Grid cited the declining price of natural gas as the primary reason for the rate-cut requests.
