National Grid Completes Fourth Solar Project

National Grid's solar installation in Revere.

With the completion of three new solar installations, energy utility National Grid has become the largest owner of solar generation in New England.

Waltham-based National Grid marked the completion of three new solar facilities in Revere, Haverhill and Everett. Those three projects, combined with an already-completed solar installation in Whitinsville/Sutton, brings the utility's total solar energy generation capacity to 3.4 megawatts.

National Grid has approval from the state to own up to 50 megawatts of solar generation. It plans to build a fifth solar project in Dorchester in 2011.
