Eastern Insurance Group LLC of Natick, has acquired the operating assets of Michals Insurance Agency, Inc, a Watertown insurer specializing in the fine arts.
Effective March 1, the deal marks the 35th acquisition of an independent insurance agency by Eastern Insurance since 2002, according to a Monday press release. Eastern is a wholly owned subsidiary of Eastern Bank in Boston.
The acquisition with Michals is part of a continuing strategy to grow Eastern Insurance’s market reach and services. Eastern represents more than 50 insurance carriers and is the 34th largest U.S. property and casualty agency, according to the announcement by Eastern.
“Michals has served the national fine arts sector for decades, and we believe their consultative approach to serving clients in this sector will expand our offerings and complement our commitment to exceptional client service,” said Tim Lodge, president and CEO of Eastern Insurance Group LLC, in a written announcement.
