Natick-based Cognex Corp., which manufacturers machine sensors, said it received more than $3 million in purchase orders for its DataMan barcode readers.
The customer, which Cognex did not name, is a U.S.-based designer of logistics and automation systems. The barcode readers will be integrated into numerous shipping and distribution centers for a major retailer, according to Cognex.
The trademarked product, called DataMan 300, is designed to boost productivity by eliminating scanner delays common to laser-based readers, Carl Gerst, a vice president at Cognex, said in a statement.
“Operators are able to scan packages in one pass without altering their natural motion pattern or having to fish for reads by waving the product repeatedly under the unit,” Gerst said in a statement.
