Natick, Ameresco Officials Cut Ribbon On Solar Project

State, local and business officials with Framingham-based energy services company Ameresco cut the ribbon on a 1.07 megawatt solar installation project at six Natick municipal buildings Tuesday morning.

Solar panels are being installed on the roofs of five school buildings, plus the new Natick Community and Senior Center. Solar panels will cover 417,000 square feet of roof space in the town. The first two phases of the project alone will support 46 percent of the schools' energy use, according to Ameresco, and the project will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 46 tons annually.

A variety of local, state and company officials were expected Tuesday morning for the ribbon cutting, including State Sen. Karen Spilka, D-Ashland; State Rep. David Linsky, D-Natick; the state's commissioner of the Department of Energy Resources Mark Sylvia; Natick schools Superintendent Peter Sanchioni and Jim Walker, director of solar photovoltaic tie projects for Ameresco.
