Mount Wachusett Community College in Gardner has collaborated with local banks and credit unions to launch a new banking certificate program.
The certificate in banking fundamentals addresses a need for bank workers, according to a Thursday press release from the college.
“Providing relevant education and training opportunities that directly support our community and industry partners is part of our mission,” MWCC President James Vander Hooven said in the press release. “This new program demonstrates that what we are doing is relevant and applicable to our communities.”
The program consists of eight existing courses at the college and one new course, Foundations in Banking, which was developed in collaboration with financial institutions with Central Massachusetts operations, including Rollstone Bank & Trust of Fitchburg, New Jersey-headquartered TD Bank, Bay State Savings Bank of Worcester, Main Street Bank in Marlborough, IC Federal Credit Union of Fitchburg, Fidelity Bank of Leominster, and Workers Credit Union of Littleton.
“Banking is not just a shirt and tie, math type role anymore, we have needs in finance, marketing, information technology, and compliance,” Suzanne Dupre, executive vice president of Marlborough-headquartered Main Street Bank, said in the press release. “This program gives you a foundation to build your career on.”
Workers Credit Union President & CEO Doug Petersen is a member of the college’s board of trustees, and Walter Dwyer, CEO of Main Street Bank, is a member of the college’s foundation board.
