Milford firm comes under agency's umbrella
Hudson-based Murphy Insurance Agency has expanded its reach by absorbing J.F. Hickey Insurance Agency of Milford, the company announced last week.
The Milford location will retain its staff, but its name has changed to Murphy Hickey Insurance. Officials at Murphy say the change gives J.F. Hickey's customers access to more auto insurance options, allowing them to comparison-shop for the best deal in the state's new competitive market. Murphy represents nine different auto insurance providers. In contrast, the company said, 55 percent of the state's insurance agents represent just one carrier.
Financial terms of the deal were not released.
The new location, at 343 Main St. in Milford, brings the total number of Murphy Insurance branches to seven. Besides the new office and the Hudson headquarters, Murphy also operates in Bolton, Groton, Harvard, Marlborough and Mendon.
Wayne Texeira, marketing director for the company, said the acquisition is part of an effort to increase its operations in the southern part of Central Massachusetts.
"It's great for our clients because we've got our office in Mendon, and we were looking for a new office to expand our services in that area," he said.
Altogether, Murphy represents 25 carriers offering all types of insurance. Texeira said the larger number of carriers that the company works with helps customers buying not just auto insurance but all kinds of insurance products.
Texeira said the deal was officially signed Nov. 30, but the company is still integrating computers, phones and other systems at the new office into its networks.
