Multimillion-dollar expansion of Marlborough data center complete
After nailing down $200 million in financing to expand facilities and increase its reach last September, data center services provider Xand has completed a multimillion-dollar expansion of its Massachusetts data center in Marlborough.
The facility serves Xand’s customers in the Greater Boston and Providence areas, and is strategically positioned on the Interstate 495 corridor in Marlborough, away , from coastal and urban areas (which have the potential for flooding and man-made disasters), according to a statement from the company.
'Unprecedented' demand for IT services
The expansion project was earmarked in 2013 due to “an unprecedented surge in demand” for the company’s cloud and hybrid hosting services, CEO Yatish Mishra said in the statement.
“The expansion of our Massachusetts facility represents Xand’s continued commitment to delivering the best possible security, infrastructure, and availability resources for our clients,” Mishra said.
The expanded Marlborough facility features 30,000 square feet of additional data center space, enhanced cloud computing infrastructure, expanded power and cooling capabilities, new disaster recovery seating where employees work during crisis events, and access controls equipped with biometric security scanners, including state-of-the-art iris scanners at the building entrance designed to control who can enter the data center.
Construction began in late 2013 and was completed earlier this year after only a few months, according to Keith Markley, chief operations officer at Xand.
“This build out dramatically increases the capabilities of our Marlborough facility,” Markley said.
2012 merger led to expanded footprint
With six data centers in Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New York and Massachusetts, Xand increased its Northeast footprint in 2012 when it merged with data center services company DBSi and entered the Pennsylvania market for the first time. According to the company website, Xand serves clients in a variety of industries, including financial services; health care; education; public sector; software; retail and manufacturing.
Xand did not reveal the cost of the expansion, and a spokesman did not return calls seeking further detail.
