The College of the Holy Cross has hired 10 new tenure-track faculty members for the 2008-09 academic year: CHRIS ARRELL, assistant professor for music; RENÉE LYNN BEARD, assistant professor for sociology and anthropology; LOUIS A. BEAUBIEN, a James N. and Eva Barrett Fellow in Ethics and the Liberal Arts as an instructor in economics; CANER DAGLI, assistant professor for religious studies; BRYAN ENGELHARDT, assistant professor for economics; RAPHAEL FALK JONES, assistant professor for mathematics and computer science; BRIAN LINTON, assistant professor of chemistry; MUNYA BRYN MUNOCHIVEYI, instructor in history; ANIL SATHIA NATHAN, assistant professor for economics; and JUSTIN POCHÉ, assistant professor of history.
The American Board of Family Medicine has awarded two of its five annual Pisacano Leadership Scholarships to University of Massachusetts Medical School students: OLGA VALDMAN and LARA JIRMANUS. Jirmanus, graduate of the class of 2010, has served as student co-coordinator of Universities Allied for Essential Medicines and led UMass student relief efforts for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Valdman, graduate of the class of 2009, started a nonprofit organization called the African Community Education Program as an outgrowth of her participation in a community health clerkship group on immigrant and refugee health.
Dr. APEKSHA TRIPATHI has joined the Saint Vincent Medical Group in Northborough. Previously, she was a staff physician at HealthEast Woodbury Clinic/Woodwinds Hospital in Minnesota. Also joining the Saint Vincent Medical Group is Dr. TODD MALVEY. He has returned to Massachusetts after working for four years as a staff physician at Moncrief Army Community Hospital in Fort Jackson, S.C. Dr. Thomas Jaquith-Houston joins the group in its Auburn office. He recently completed his residency at the University of Massachusetts Fitchburg Family Medicine Residency Program.
Dr. SHERYL IRWIN, a specialist in internal medicine, has joined Southbridge-based Harrington Memorial Hospital’s Sturbridge office. Previously, Irwin worked as a clinical assistant professor at the University of Kansas School of Medicine.
Clinton Savings Bank announced that CYNTHIA ALDEN, vice president of branch administration, has graduated with honors from the American Bankers Association’s National School of Banking. She also received the strategic management excellence award in the program’s senior business simulation.
Anna Maria College announced eight new additions to its faculty: ANNE MARIE CATALANO, assistant professor of nursing; BARBARA DRISCOLL DE ALVARADO, assistant professor of humanities; MICHAEL DONNELLY, assistant professor of criminal justice and director of the master’s in public administration program; TRAVIS MARUSKA, assistant professor of humanities; ANN MARIE MIRES, assistant professor of criminal justice; EVERETT PIERCE, interim director of the fire science programs; RONALD SHERWIN, assistant professor of music; and JULIENNE UGALDE, assistant professor of education.
W. PATRICK HUGHES, division president of health plan operations for Worcester-based Fallon Community Health Plan, has joined the board of directors for VNA Care Network & Hospice.
Medway Co-operative Bank has hired ROBERT LEIST in the newly created position of senior vice president and CFO. He brings more than 25 years of financial management. He has served as vice president and CFO of Grafton Suburban Credit Union and senior vice president and controller at Community National Bank.
Worcester-based Corporate Benefit Plans announced that its founder, GREG LAVELLE, is one of 70 business and health leaders to serve on the Wellness Council of America’s National Panel of Advisors.
Sepracor Inc. in Marlborough has appointed of two senior managers. RICHARD RANIERI has been appointed to the newly created position of executive vice president of human resources and administration. He joins Sepracor from Neurocrine Biosciences Inc. where he was senior vice president and chief administrative officer.
Averion International Corp. of Southborough has appointed pharmaceutical executive PETER C. GONZE as executive vice president of global business development. Gonze has been in pharmaceutical sales for more than 35 years and has been COO of Maryland-based Unither Pharmaceuticals Inc. for the past six years.
Framingham State College has hired a new vice president for college advancement, CHRISTOPHER HENDRY of Nashua, N.H. Hendry will focus on expanding the college’s individual and corporate donations. He was previously director of development at Fitchburg State College.
