Movers & Shakers from the December 7, 2009 Issue

DORIS ANN SWEET was named director of library services at Assumption College of Worcester. She earned degrees in English, history and library services from Columbia University and helped run the research services area of the Simmons College library.

Athol tool manufacturer L.S. Starrett has named FRANCIS J. O'BRIEN as treasurer and CFO. O’Brien previously served as CFO at Delta Education LLC and at StockerYale Corp. He has also held management positions at Analogic Corp., Addison Wesley and Coopers & Lybrand. O’Brien has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts and an MBA from Suffolk University. He is also a certified public accountant.

Clinton Savings Bank has hired MARY T. DEAN as a vice president of commercial lending and Terry Parker as branch manager of the bank’s West Boylston location. Dean previously served as vice president and cash management/commercial lending officer at Commonwealth National Bank. In Parker’s new role, she will manage the operations and staff of the West Boylston branch. Parker has worked in banking for more than 20 years.

Nichols College has chosen JOHN H. MCCLUTCHY JR. as the new chairman of its board of trustees and added THOMAS J. HALL as a new trustee. McClutchy is founder and managing member of The JHM Group of companies. He succeeds Robert J. Vaudreuil, president and CEO of The Protector Group Insur-ance Agency Inc., who served as chairman of the board from 2005 to 2009. Hall is managing director and branch manager of Wachovia Securities, which was recently acquired by Wells Fargo Advisors.

Saint Vincent Hospital of Worcester has named CAREN SPAGNUOLO as associate director of infection control. Spagnuolo is an RN and also works as a clinical risk manager in the hospital’s risk management department.

The Southborough-based Massa-chusetts Restaurant Association has appointed LON BREEDLOVE to director of membership services. In his new position, Breedlove will handle membership recruitment, retention and services throughout the state. Breedlove has worked with associations and nonprofit organizations for more than a decade, including six years at various chapters of the National Restaurant Association.

KATELYN TIVNAN was named an anchor and reporter at WCTR Charter TV3. She previously worked for Entertainment Tonight and The Insider. She’s a resident of Holden and has a degree from Boston University.

CAROL L. SETO has joined Framingham accounting firm Gray, Gray & Gray LLP as tax director. Seto previously served as director of tax consulting at Westwood accounting firm RSM McGladrey Inc. Before joining RSM in 2007, she spent 18 years at Deloitte & Touche.

Weston Nurseries of Hopkinton has hired ERIC MCGOURTY as director of finance and controller. Before joining Weston, McGourty spent eight years at AquaHealth Inc. in Wrentham, helping the company expand its customer base. In his new position, McGourty will help the company manage its inventory, add new products and improve its customer service.

The Worcester Sharks hockey team has promoted two members of its ticket sales staff: KRISTEN MOORE and KRISTEN MANSUR. Moore was promoted from inside sales staff to account executive. She is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire and an Acton native. Mansur was promoted to finance/ticket operations coordinator. She is a graduate of Johnson & Wales University. She joined the Sharks in July after four years working for Major League Soccer.

The board of the new Massachusetts Department of Transportation includes two Central Massachusetts residents: JOHN R. JENKINS and ANDREW WHITTLE. Jenkins, the chairman of the new five-member board, is a Natick resident and president of Boston-based West Insurance Agency Inc. He was a former member of the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority Board. Whittle lives in Boxborough and is the head of the Massachusetts Institute for Technology’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. He is a geotechnical engineer.

The New York Times Co. is promoting CHRISTOPHER M. MAYER to head of the New England Media Group, which includes The Boston Globe and the Worcester Telegram & Gazette. Mayer, who is currently senior vice president for circulation and operations at the Globe, will also be publisher of that paper. The appointment to the new position is effective Jan. 1, 2010.

Fallon Clinic has hired LAKSHMI BABU at its ReadyMed clinic in Shrewsbury and James Seltzer at its allergy department at Worcester Medical Center. Babu, a family-practice physician, offers non-emergency medical care at the clinic. Seltzer is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia.
