Movers & Shakers from the August 2, 2010 Issue

The Colleges of Worcester Consortium Inc. has elected GAIL CARBERRY, president of Quinsigamond Community College, as its board chair, and Anna Maria College President JACK CALARESO as vice chair. Rev. MICHAEL C. MCFARLAND, president of the College of the Holy Cross, moves from chair to past chair of the board. TIMOTHY R. AUSTIN, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college at Holy Cross, was picked as clerk and chair of the chief academic officers committee.

MATTHEW SALMON was promoted to chief operating officer of Salmon Health and Retirement of West-borough. He started as a physical therapist with the family business in 1995 and later took on management positions. He has a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, and MBA from Northeastern University.

DOREEN MANNING has been promoted to editor of Worcester Magazine. Manning previously served as the editor of the magazine’s A&E section, and will continue to oversee that section in addition to her new responsibilities. Manning previously ran the monthly arts magazine The Beat, which circulated in Central Massachusetts and Middlesex County, for seven years. Before that, she spent 10 years as special section editor at the Boston Globe. She has also worked for Stuff Magazine and the Boston Phoenix.

After four seasons as president and CEO of the Worcester Sharks, MICHAEL T. LEHR has been promoted to executive vice president of business development for the Sharks’ parent company, Silicon Valley Sports & Entertainment. Lehr is also remaining CEO of the Sharks, and former senior vice president MICHAEL MUDD has been promoted to president. (See Page 8 for an interview with Mudd).

The Worcester Sharks also announced the promotion of two members of its front office staff, MATT CATACCHIO and KRISTEN MANSUR, and hired former Sharks intern TRAVIS LASH. The Sharks described the moves as part of restructuring their front office. Catacchio was promoted to corporate partnerships coordinator. In his new position, he will work with Corporate Sales Manager Eric Horn in selling and fulfilling corporate sponsorships. Mansur, who is starting her second season with the Sharks, was promoted to finance and ticket operations manager.

United Solutions Inc., a Marlborough firm that provides technology products for the construction industry, has hired WALTER MACDOUGALL to help companies adopt construction-specific software. MacDougall has worked in construction software for 10 years. His experience includes work with the Quest Solutions estimating program and Management and Associated Services Inc. Before entering the construction industry, he worked as assistant equipment manager for the Boston Red Sox.

ROBERT FRANCE, president of Senate Construction Corp. in Shirley, has been appointed treasurer of the Associated General Contractors Mas-sachusetts Chapter for 2010-2011. France has worked in construction for 30 years, with positions in areas including sales and project management. He founded Senate Construc-tion in 1990. France has a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Northeastern University.

JACQUELINE D. PETERSON, Holy Cross vice president for student affairs and dean of students, becomes chair of the chief student affairs officers committee. ANNMARIE SAMAR, associate vice president for enrollment management at Worcester State College, was picked as chair of the higher education access and retention committee.

Framingham-based office supply company Staples Inc. has hired STEVEN FUND as senior vice president of global brand marketing. The newly created position gives Fund responsibility for Staples’ global brand marketing, including brand strategy, advertising and public and community relations for all business units worldwide. Fund previously worked as global marketing director at Procter & Gamble’s Gillette Global Business Unit, with responsibility for the Fusion and Mach3 brands. Before that, he worked for Lycos Inc., Pepsi-Cola Co. and McKinsey & Co. He is a graduate of New York University’s Stern School of Business.

Gardner-based nonprofit RCAP Solutions has hired JONATHAN BRINKER as a database administrator and JENNIFER TOLER as a senior loan analyst. Brinker previously worked at Advanced Career Technologies Inc. of Framingham. Before that he was the help desk center supervisor at Framingham State College. In his new position, he will run the organization’s database management systems. Toler previously worked as an organizational consultant and office manager at Fall River-based microbial fuel cell company Hy-SyEnce.

Leominster construction management and general contracting firm Murray Brothers Construction Inc. has hired MICHAEL DAVID as an estimator and pre-construction manager. David began working in construction as an intern at Murray Brothers. He then worked for Boston-based Shawmut Design and Construction for several years before returning to Murray.
