Dr. PETER ANTKOWIAK has been named the medical director of the emergency department at Harrington HealthCare System, which has emergency care centers in Southbridge and Webster. Antkowiak is an attending emergency physician and administration fellow at Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians, and a clinical fellow and instructor of emergency medicine at Harvard Medical School in Boston. He completed his undergraduate studies at McGill University in Montreal and received his medical degree from Albany Medical College in New York. He completed his residency at Maine Medical Center in Portland, during which time he was a clinical associate of Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in health management degree at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in Boston.
KARL P. KAMYK has been named the director of quality and risk management at Fairlawn Rehabilitation Hospital in Worcester. Before his new job, he served as the operations director for imaging and non-invasive cardiology services for Day Kimball HealthCare in Connecticut. Kamyk was the regional director of integrity and compliance at Trinity Health in New England and in key leadership positions at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Stafford Springs, Conn. He received an MBA from Bay Path University in Longmeadow, a bachelor of science degree from Assumption University in Worcester, an associates degree in radiologic technology, and is registered and licensed in radiology and computer tomography. Kamyk is a certified professional in healthcare quality.
MetroWest Physician Services has added two new physicians to its practice: Dr. NEIL HERMAN and Dr. SERENA YOUNG, both orthopedic surgeons on staff at MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham. Herman’s expertise includes sports medicine as well as joint replacement surgery of both the hip and knee. He completed medical school at the University of Montreal and is an adjunct clinical instructor for Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston. Young is a graduate of the University of Ottawa Medical School, where she also completed her residency. She completed her fellowship training at Harvard Medical School and Boston Children's Hospital.
KAREN ARES has been announced as the executive administrator of the Blackstone Valley Education Hub. Ares is a former high school science teacher and was the assistant superintendent of teaching and learning and STEAM director at the Dudley-Charlton Regional School District. During her time at the school district, she acquired more than $600,000 for grant funding for many programs, including Project Lead the Way STEM pathway for grades 6-12 in engineering and biomedical science. Ares was a leader in the charge for Shepherd Hill Regional High School becoming one of the 11 schools in Massachusetts acquiring Innovation Pathway designation in 2019. She holds a bachelor of science degree in biology from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Fla., and a masters of science degree in occupational and environmental health and safety from Anna Maria College in Paxton.
