ALAN JENNE was promoted to senior vice president of consumer lending at Worcester-based Commerce Bank. He joined Commerce in 2009 as vice president of consumer lending. Jenne earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester.
LEONARD W. CANNON was named a financial advisor for Fitchburg-based Workers' Credit Union, and will maintain offices in the credit union's Groton, Townsend, Acton and Chelmsford branches. He was previously senior vice president of investments for Westminster Financial Securities, based in Vandalia, Ohio. He earned a bachelor's degree from Georgia State University in Atlanta.
CAROLYN STEMPLER was appointed to the Anna Maria College Board of Trustees in Paxton. She owns and operates a boutique invitation company in Worcester, Carolyn and June Designs. She was previously chief information officer for W.R. Grace & Co. in Columbia, Md. Stempler holds a bachelor's degree in computer information sciences from Arizona State University in Tempe and earned her MSE in engineering and business from the University of Pennsylvania.
DEBORAH PLOTKIN joined Gardner-based Heywood Hospital's Tully Family Medicine office in Phillipston. She previously worked at North Quabbin Family Physicians for more than a decade. Plotkin completed her bachelor's degree in nursing at Fitchburg State University. She earned a master's from UMass Medical School in Worcester and completed her post-graduate degree to become a family nurse practitioner at UMass in Amherst.
DR. SURYADUTT VENKAT was hired by Reliant Medical Group of Worcester. He will practice as a primary-care physician in the department of family medicine in Holden. Dr. Venkat earned his medical degree from Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Medical College/Bangalore University in Karnataka, India. He then completed his residency at the UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School/Centrastate Medical Center in Freehold, N.J.
LISA LASTELLA was hired by Gardner-based GFA Federal Credit Union as a marketing director. She worked at HealthAlliance Hospital from 2011 to 2012 as a capital campaign manager. Lastella was Heywood Hospital's marketing and communications coordinator from 2006 to 2011. She holds a bachelor's degree in communications and public relations from Rivier College in Nashua, N.H.
DEBORAH PENTA was named to the board of directors for the Worcester County Food Bank. She is CEO of PENTA Communications Inc. in Westborough.
EMILY BRAGA, RAY MURPHY, JOCELYN ARSENAULT and TAMMY GULCIUS were promoted by Hudson-based Avidia Bank. Braga, in the operations department, was named a vice president. She joined the bank in 1979 and is a graduate of Emmanuel College in Boston. Murphy, in the facilities department, was also named vice president. He was hired by the bank in 2004 and previously worked for Community National Bank. Arsenault was also named vice president. She joined the bank's accounting department and moved into auditing in 2004. Galcius was named a senior auditor. She joined Avidia in 2002 and became an internal auditor in 2007.
The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester promoted 13 professors to the rank of associate professor with tenure. They are: ANDREA BORGHINI, philosophy department; JEFFREY C. DIXON, sociology and anthropology; DEBRA GETTELMAN, English; JUMI HAYAKI, psychology; CYNTHIA V. HOOPER, history; TIMOTHY A. JOSEPH, classics; DAVID KARMON, visual arts; SARA GRAN MITCHELL, biology; JENNIE GERMANN MOLZ, sociology and anthropology; STEPHANIE J. REENTS, English; THIBAUT SCHILT, modern languages and literatures; BIANCA R. SCULIMBRENE, chemistry; and SUSAN CRAWFORD SULLIVAN, sociology and anthropology.
JENNIFER LEDOUX and PAMELA SPANN were promoted by Fitchburg-based Workers' Credit Union. Ledoux, of Fitchburg, was promoted from compliance/QC administrator to compliance officer. She has been with the credit union for 15 years. Spann was promoted from operations manager to assistant vice president, operations manager. She has been with the credit union for 14 years and is a resident of Gardner.
LINDA MACK was hired by the Community Foundation of North Central Massachusetts in Fitchburg as director of gift planning. She most recently was CEO of her own business, Heron Grace Non Profit Solutions, based in Townsend. Prior to that, she served as executive director for the Massachusetts Association of Conservation Commissions. Mack lives in Townsend.
PATRICK MURACA, president and CEO of Nuclea Biotechnologies Inc., with offices in Worcester, was appointed to the Jimmy Fund Visiting Committee, one of eight blue-ribbon panels at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. He has been CEO and president of Nuclea since 2005.
JENNIFER FLOYD was hired as parks and recreation director for Hopkinton. She was most recently parks and recreation coordinator in Belmont.
SANDRA B. HALEY was promoted and STEPHANIE M. CONNON and ERIC F. PIURKOWSKI were hired by Westborough-based Hospitality Insurance Group. Haley is now senior vice president of underwriting and marketing. She previously worked for Harleysville Insurance Co. in Worcester, and earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. Connon is vice president of claims operations and Piurkowski vice president of finance and CFO. Prior to joining Hospitality, Connon formed her own law practice. She earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Massachusetts and her law degree from New England School of Law in Boston. Piurkowski has 15 years of experience in the insurance industry. Before joining Hospitality, he was senior audit manager at Saslow, Lufkin & Buggy LLP in Avon, Conn. He earned a bachelor's degree from Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Conn., and is a certified public accountant.
