Movers & Shakers


Boston-based MassDevelopment in Worcester announced two recent additions. JAY N. BAILEY has joined as vice president and will be responsible for the agency's real estate asset management. Bailey has more than 18 years of experience in property management, most recently as assistant vice president at BNY Mellon. ROBERT G. SEEGA has joined as vice president and will coordinate financial analysis, financial structuring and performance monitoring of Mass-Development's investment portfolios in Central Massachusetts. With more than 20 years of capital market experience, Seega most recently served as assistant treasurer for National Grid USA.

JORG BASSIACOS, former assistant general manager of the Worcester Tornadoes, was named executive vice president and general manager of the team. Bassiacos joined the Tornadoes in their 2005 season, but left in 2007. DAVID PETERSON was also named vice president and director of sales. Peterson has led the Tornadoes sales team since 2007.

RYAN CLARK has been promoted to senior account executive of corporate sales for the Worcester Sharks. He will work in all aspects of corporate sales including proposal development and customer service. Clark has been an account executive for the Sharks since 2005.

The Bank of Canton has hired RUTA CONVENT as a regional lending manager at the Bank's Auburn Mortgage center, where she will be responsible for providing Worcester area residents with counseling and training. With 27 years of banking experience, Convent previously served as mortgage originator for AAA Southern New England Bank.

ERIC P. GUSTAFSON has joined Anna Maria College in Paxton as director of institutional advancement. Gustafson previously served as director of alumni and college relations and director of publications from February 2001 through June 2004. Prior to his appointment to Anna Maria, Gustafson served as director of the annual fund and associate director of major gifts at Muskingum College in Ohio.
SHAWN J. LINEHAM has been elected to serve a two-year term as president of the Middlesex West Chamber of Commerce. He is currently the assistant vice president and Acton branch manager for Workers' Credit Union, and has been a board member since 2004 serving on the school business partnership and golf committees.

Nichols College in Dudley has named ASUMAN GOKSEL of Istanbul, Turkey, and JANE BIRCKHEAD of Cincinnati, Ohio, as the newest members to its board of trustees. Goksel is a certified and experienced premier property specialist, with Unilever and Novartis among her corporate clients. She founded Imaj Real Estate Co. in Istanbul in 1992, is a member of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce and National Association of Realtors International, and has studied English and business in Europe and the United States. Birckhead is executive vice president of Hukill Hazlett Harrington Agency Inc., where she has worked since 1993. She is a 1973 graduate of Indiana University who has had business and insurance experience, and has served as a member of several boards, including The Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation and the Rotary Club of Cincinnati. Both Goksel and Birckhead will serve four-year terms.

JOHN KELLY has joined Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester as senior director of nursing operations. A graduate of Framingham Union Hospital School of Nursing, Kelly is a certified paramedic and holds a BSN from Framingham State College and an MBA from Clark University in Worcester.

The Associated Industries of Massachusetts has elected 11 new directors, including two local business leaders: JEFF CROWLEY, president of Wachusett Ski Area in Princeton; and CHRISTOPHER SCHOLL, director of health, safety, and environment at Saint-Gobain Abraisives Inc. in Worcester.

SUSAN L. PISANO was recently elected to the board of directors of the American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts. With 19 years of experience, Pisano is a current associate of Tighe & Bond in Worcester, where she manages and directs a variety of environmental engineering projects.

JOE QUINTAL of Rotman's Furniture in Worcester has been appointed to the board of directors of the National Home Furnishings Association (NHFA). The NHFA is an 88-year-old trade organization based in High Point, N.C. with 2,750 corporate members representing 10,000 home furnishing stores.

The Worcester-based Hanover Insurance Group Inc. has named JEROME GUINEY regional vice president for commercial lines for the company's Southeast region. Guiney will be based in the company's Atlanta, Ga. office and will oversee the company's Georgia and Tennessee territories. Guiney was formerly an assistant southeastern regional vice president for The Hartford.
