MARK S. KLEMPNER was appointed executive vice chancellor for the UMass Biologics Laboratory at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester. Klempner was previously the Conrad Wesselhoeft professor of medicine and professor of microbiology at Boston University School of Medicine, where he also served as director of the National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories. He is a graduate of Cornell University in New York City. He begins his new post July 1.
DREW FAUST, president of Harvard University, was nominated for election to Framingham-based Staples’ Board of Directors. The election takes place June 4. MARY ELIZABETH BURTON will retire from the board at that time.
Worcester-based Cogmedix promoted MATTHEW GIZA to vice president and general manager. He previously served as director of sales and marketing. Prior to that, Giza was director of worldwide sales and service for GSI Group.
Worcester-based Bay State Savings Bank promoted OSMAN K. ACHEAMPONG to vice president and credit administration officer and CHERI E. CARTY to vice president and treasurer. Acheampong joined Bay State Savings Bank in 2011 as a credit administration officer. He has a bachelor’s from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi-Ghana, and a master’s from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Carty was hired by the bank in 1992, most recently serving as assistant treasurer. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Nichols College in Dudley.
MICHAEL ALEXANDER was hired by Worcester-based Curtis Industries LLC, a cab enclosures and accessories company, as vice president of marketing and sales. He was previously director of global business development for Club Car.
Framingham-based social services agency Advocates Inc. hired BARBARA HOLLAND as chief diversity officer. She has served in diversity director positions at Framingham State University and Massachusetts General Hospital. Holland is also the founder and president of BreakThrough Partners, a consulting firm.
Reliant Medical Group of Worcester has named THOMAS HICKS chief of occupational medicine. He has served as an occupational medicine physician in private practice and as site medical director with UMass Correctional Health. He received his medical degree from the Tufts University School of Medicine. Hicks is board certified by the American Board of Preventive Medicine-Occupational Medicine and the American Board of Family Medicine.
North Brookfield Savings Bank hired RICK EGAN and LILLIAN CARLSON. Egan is an assistant vice president and commercial loan officer and Carlson is a loan officer. Egan was most recently an assistant vice president and business development officer for GFA Federal Credit Union. He lives in Ashburnham. Carlson most recently served as a credit analyst at Butler Bank. She is a resident of Leicester.
