Movers and Shakers

Worcester-based Davis Advertising has hired STEVEN CABRAL as account executive. He has 30 years’ experience with automotive advertising, having spent 15 years with Scott Volkswagen of East Providence, RI. As part of Scott’s sales department, Cabral achieved Volkswagen’s highest recognition, the Master Sales Guild Award. Ultimately, he was promoted to the position of general manager, which he held for seven years. He also worked at Autosound in Plainville.

Framingham-based Staples Inc. chair and CEO RON SARGENT has joined the board of directors of The Kroger Co., a retail grocery chain headquartered in Cincinnati. Before joining Staples in 1989, Sargent had served in a variety of positions at Kroger for 10 years. He is also a director with Aramark Corp., Mattel Inc., and the Yankee Candle Co. Current plans call for Sargent to serve until Kroger’s annual meeting of shareholders in June of 2007. At that meeting, he will run for election by the shareholders. His election would bring the Kroger board headcount to 15.

DAVID KURTZ of Shrewsbury has joined the law firm Fletcher, Tilton & Whipple PC in Worcester as an associate. Kurtz joins the firm after practicing as a labor and employment attorney in the Boston offices of Foley Hoag LLP, and Choate Hall & Stewart LLP. Kurtz has represented unionized and non-unionized employers alike, from Fortune 50 companies to small start-ups. He will continue developing his practice in labor and employment law at FTW. The firm also announced the hiring of JOHN CREEDON JR., an associate who will concentrate in all aspects of civil litigation and corporate law. Prior to joining Fletcher, Tilton & Whipple in 2006, Creedon served as a law clerk with O’Connell, Flaherty & Attmore in Hartford, CT and for Peters & Sowyrda in Worcester

 

 

Framingham-based The TJX Cos. Inc. has appointed GREG FLORES as executive vice president and chief human resources officer, where he will focus on recruitment and retention of talent throughout the company. He previously served as senior vice president for Human Resources, Communications and Research at Reed Business Information, a business-to-business media company. Flores has also previously worked with companies such as Daymon Worldwide, Thriftway Food & Drug Inc., H.E. Butt Grocery Co., and PepsiCo.

Three members of Westboro-based NEON Communications’ team have been promoted to vice president positions in Sales & Marketing, Engineering, and Operations. PATRICK COUGHLIN will fulfill the role of vice president, sales & marketing. He will be responsible for attaining revenue targets, customer relationship management, pricing, marketing communications, product management, and new product & market development. Prior to his new position, Coughlin held sales positions at Comlink and Teleport Communications Group, among others. RUSS SCHOMBER will operate as vice president, Engineering. He will be responsible for network engineering, network design and architecture, inside plant engineering, and new product readiness, among others duties. Before joining NEON, Schomber was with Fiber Optic Manufacturing for six years. JAMES CAPUANO holds the title of vice president, Operations. He will be involved with NEON’s network control center, customer care, field operations, quality assurance and other tasks. Previously, Capuano held positions at MCI and the Department of Defense. NEON Communications is a subsidiary of Globix Corp.

American Superconductor Corp., in Westboro has appointed JOHN WOOD to its board of Directors, expanding the current board to nine. Since 2003, Wood has served as CEO of Analogic Corp. in Peabody, a manufacturer of processing instruments and medical equipment. He will leave that post effective Dec. 31. Prior to that, Wood served as president of Peek Ltd., a division of Thermo Electron Corp. in Waltham, as well as sitting as president and CEO of Thermedics, a subsidiary of Thermo Electron.

Jan. 11 (Thu.): "Worcester: Finding Your Way" Community Input Meeting: The Worcester Wayfinding Project is a public-private partnership between the City of Worcester and its business, higher education and cultural communities. Its mission is to develop a wayfinding system of signage, destination identifiers and information kiosks to featuring directions and a sense of Worcester’s rich cultural history and future.
