Mount Wachusett Community College has changed its criminal justice program for the fall semester to make it easier for students to transfer their credits to a four-year school.
The Gardner school has long had a study path for those planning to directly enter the field. Now, it has another, which also leads to an associate degree, meant for students moving on to a four-year school.
The new track, which the school announced this month ahead of the new school year, was created in response to the needs of students, said Reed Hillman, the chair of Mount Wachusett's criminal justice program.
“You don’t have to go negotiate. You don’t have to worry about taking credits here that won’t transfer," Hillman said in a press release.
The transfer track prepares students to move into fields such as forensics or cyber-security work, which require further study than an associate degree. Students can transfer to any public four-year school within the state, with all credits transferring, as long as the student earned a passing grade.
