The weekly average rate for 30-year fixed mortgages quoted on the site Zillow.com increased to 5.48 percent last week, up from 5.25 percent.
Fifteen-year fixed mortgage rates rose to 4.95 percent while 5-1 adjustable rate mortgages rose to 4.62 percent.
Massachusetts has the dubious distinction of having the highest mortgage rates, along with New York, according to Zillow. Thirty-year fixed rate mortgages in the Bay State averaged 5.55 percent according to the site. In New York, the average rate was 5.56 percent.
Florida mortgage rates were the lowest, at 5.44 percent, while California mortgage rates were the most requested.
