More Workers Changing Commutes To Save Gas

According to a new survey, 44 percent of workers say higher gas prices have affected their commutes, up from 34 percent two years ago.

The survey of 539 workers, developed by staffing firm Robert Half International , shows that 46 percent of those who have made a change are now doing more carpooling or ridesharing. A third of respondents say they are now driving a more fuel efficient car, and another third say they are telecommuting more often. Three in 10 said they are looking for a new job closer to home.

Of those making a change, smaller numbers said they are working fewer days of the week (26 percent), asking for more compensation (25 percent), taking public transportation more often (23 percent) and walking or biking to work (18 percent).
