Late spring and early summer saw record-breaking traffic to the state’s tourism Web site and increased gate numbers at attractions. Both are signs of a successful summer season for the Commission on Culture and Tourism, which cites ramped-up marketing and advertising campaigns coupled with warm weather for the high marks. Attendance at major attractions spiked 4.52 percent in April compared to the same time in 2006, and then 9.85 percent in May, compared to the same time last year.
