Two anti-smoking groups said per capita cigarette sales in Massachusetts increased by more than 3 percent between 2005 and 2006.
The Tobacco Free Mass Coalition and the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids released the report in a bid to convince the Commonwealth to dramatically increase funding for the Massachusetts tobacco control program.
While cigarette sales inched up in Massachusetts, they declined by more than 3 percent nationally, the report said.
The report also said the number of Massachusetts high school students who smoke has remained about the same since 2003.
