Monday gives Worcester County lowest COVID death increase in two months

Worcester County reported 16 new coronavirus cases Monday and one death, which is the lowest one-day increase in the death toll since April 9, according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

The record low increase in new deaths brings the total count to 871. Statewide, there was also a lower increase with 23 confirmed coronavirus fatalities adding to the 7,647 overall. In comparison, there were 48 new probable and confirmed coronavirus deaths the day prior.

New cases in Worcester County bring the total to 11,991. Throughout Massachusetts, there were 58 confirmed and 29 probable cases reported on Monday. The new numbers bring the total confirmed and probable cases to 105,698 in the state.

DPH also reported 4,796 total coronavirus tests administered Monday.

As of June 11, the city of Worcester has had a reported 5,068 coronavirus cases. The next report by the city will be made on Thursday.

UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester reported 46 inpatients with 20 in intensive care. Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester reported 21 inpatients and seven in the ICU.

MetroWest Medical Center in Natick and Framingham reported 27 suspected and confirmed and suspected cases, and Milford Regional Medical Center reported 10. In total the hospitals recorded 10 suspected and confirmed cases in the ICU. Other Central Massachusetts hospitals such as Harrington Hospital, Heywood hospital, and Health Alliance in Leominster reported 12 suspected and confirmed cases and four in intensive care.

Nationally, there are more than 2.1 million coronavirus cases and 116,127 fatalities, according to Johns Hopkins University in Maryland. Globally, coronavirus cases have exceeded 8 million with more than 437,000 deaths.
