Irish technology company TotalMobile, which has local offices in Westborough, announced plans to hire 100 workers during the next few years, most of them in Massachusetts.
TotalMobile has had operations in the United States since 2008 and currently has about 15 employees in America. The company plans to add dozens of additional workers in the next two to three years, according to Colin Reid, CEO of the company's parent organization, Consilium Technologies, which is based in the United Kingdom.
Lt. Gov. Timothy Murray joined Reid and more than two dozen state and company officials at the company's Lyman Street offices to make the announcement.
TotalMobile is using the Bay State as a "beachhead" to expand in North America, Murray said. Announcements like TotalMobile's are the fruits of recent trade missions by Gov. Deval Patrick to Britain and Israel, Murray added.
Reid, TotalMobile's CEO, said one of the main driving forces in deciding to expand in Massachusetts is the state's access to a highly-skilled workforce.
"If you're a high-tech business, acquiring talent is the number one, two and probably number three priority," Reid said.
TotalMobile provides mobile application communications systems for clients. The technology allows workers to capture information in the field and relay it back to the office in real time.
For example, the company works with government agencies that do inspections, allowing workers to input data from the field into a mobile application or tablet and have that information appear directly on government databases. The process saves time and eliminates the need to input the data twice.
The company has partnerships with such brands as AT&T, Motorola, Microsoft, Blackberry and Windows Mobile.
