Mobile Market Brings Produce To Worcester

Local officials will unveil Worcester's new mobile farmers market, The Veggie Mobile, today at Grant Square.

The market will make 10 stops a week to neighborhoods throughout the city, bringing fresh produce to low-income residents.

The Veggie Mobile is part of the Regional Environmental Council's Food Justice Program, which works to increase the accessibility and affordability of healthy produce for city residents. REC is a grassroots environmental justice organization in Worcester. The mobile market and was created following increasing demand for fresh fruits and vegetables in neighborhoods that lack access to affordable produce.

The Veggie Mobile is funded by the Harvard Pilgrim Foundation's Growing Up Healthy initiative, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Community Food Project Competitive Grants Program, Mass in Motion, the Health Foundation of Central Massachusetts, the United Way of Central Massachusetts, the Worcester Regional Transit Authority, UMass Memorial Health Care Inc. and the City of Worcester's Division of Public Health.
