Minimum Wage To Rise Jan. 1

The Massachusetts minimum wage is set to increase from $7.50 per hour to $8 per hour as of the first of the year.

Attorney General Martha Coakley said in a statement that her office will strictly enforce the law. Employers who fail to pay the minimum wage to workers covered by the law can face civil or criminal penalties.

The state legislature passed the increase in 2006.
