The Town of Millbury received almost $1.2 million from the MassWorks Infrastructure Program for improvements to its downtown, according to a Thursday press release from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development.
The grant will go toward intersection upgrades, pedestrian plazas, wheelchair-accessible sidewalks, streetlights, and parking enhancements, per the announcement. The improvements are expected to leverage more than $17 million in private investment, which will go toward a 59-unit housing development.
“Millbury is proud to be a recipient of this MassWorks grant, which will allow us to continue the revitalization of our downtown,” said Millbury Town Manager Sean Hendricks in the press release. “The funds will allow us to continue implementing our vision of a walkable, accessible-for-all downtown area that will be a destination for residents, businesses, and visitors.”
The MassWorks Infrastructure Program is part of the state’s funding program for housing and job growth, which launched in January.
