Milford Regional Medical Center was awarded by the American Heart Association for its commitment to treating stroke patients, according to a hospital press release from Thursday.

The Milford teaching hospital received a gold Get With The Guidelines - Stroke achievement award.

The American Heart Association, a Dallas-headquartered nonprofit, grants achievement awards to hospitals  demonstrating 85% or more compliance with its achievement measures, such as treating stroke patients with the correct therapies by certain times, according to its website.

Bronze, silver, and gold awards are determined by the duration of time a hospital meets those measures. Gold awardees have met performance guidelines for 24 consecutive months or more.

Milford Regional Medical Center is the sixth largest hospital in the region with 149 licensed beds and 1,744 employees.
