Milford Regional Medical Center is officially a member of Worcester healthcare provider system UMass Memorial Health, dropping its former title for UMass Memorial Health – Milford Regional Medical Center, as the system announced it finalized on Tuesday its corporate affiliation process.
Having clinically affiliated with UMMH in 1991, UMMH and Milford Regional signed a letter of intent to merge back in September 2023, according to a Tuesday release by the healthcare system.
With 300 primary and specialty physicians, the merger includes Milford Regional’s 2,500 employees and providers, boosting UMMH’s total provider count to more than 20,000 caregivers.

“We welcome Milford Regional caregivers to the UMass Memorial Health family and look forward to supporting Milford Regional as it advances its commitment to providing exceptional healthcare services to the greater Milford community,” Dr. Eric Dickson, UMMH president and CEO, said in the release.
Milford Regional President & CEO Ed Kelly will remain in his position, joining UMMH’s senior leadership team.

“This is the right time and UMass Memorial Health is the right partner to pave the path for our promising future. Since [1991], many additional clinical and educational programs have been created with UMMH to bolster the level of care offered to the greater Milford community through the Milford-based residency program; multiple surgical programs; and our innovative intensive care service, to name a few,” Kelly said in the release.
With 148-bed acute care beds, Milford Regional completed renovations and expansions in 2015, unveiling a 78,000 square-foot facility with a new emergency department, intensive care unit, and private patient rooms.
The largest hospital in the UMass Memorial Health system – UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester – has 749 licensed beds. UMass Memorial has other campuses in Marlborough, Southbridge, Leominster, and Clinton.
