Milford Regional Medical Center has received a gold performance achievement award from the American Stroke Association.
The award was given through the association’s “Get with the Guidelines” program. The hospital was able to demonstrate 95 percent adherence to the program’s key measures for at least 24 consecutive months. The measures include aggressive use of specific medications such as tPA, antithrombotics and cholesterol-reducing drugs.
The American Stroke Association program also emphasizes patient education. Studies have found that patients who are taught how to manage their risk factors while still in the hospital reduce their risk of a second heart attack or stroke.
Milford Regional is 121-bed nonprofit hospital.
