Milford commercial and residential developer Lobisser Building Corp. has proposed to buy a vacant middle school on Milford’s Main Street for $115,000 with plans for either a two-story commercial building or senior living apartments.
Lobisser, owned by Milford resident Kevin Lobisser, submitted the only bid to the town’s request for proposals to redevelop the 70,000-square-foot former Middle School East constructed in 1918.
Lobisser's proposed price is well below the property's assessed value of $3.8 million. However, he isn't asking for financing help for the project.
The building has been vacant for more than a year due to a new $60-million elementary school and a reshuffling of grades.
Lobisser’s first option for the school includes demolishing the entire structure and building a 20,000-square-foot, two-story commercial building.
Another option includes removing just a portion of the brick building and redeveloping the structure for senior living apartments.
The senior living option would require a zoning change, but Lobisser indicated in his bid he prefers the commercial development due to three pending affordable housing applications in town.
Lobisser has had a hand in several Milford projects, including a dental office building just down the Main Street and three medical office buildings.
He plans to build the Whitewood Preserve 29-unit condominium subdivision in a separate area of town.
