Mid-April state tax collections up

Tax collections midway through April, usually the biggest month of the year for receipts, are up by $118 million over the same period in 2014.
In an April 21 letter to lawmakers, state Revenue Commissioner Mark Nunnelly said receipts to date include $25 million in settlement-related payments, and noted that 60 to 70 percent of tax collections during April arrive in the second half of the month.
The monthly benchmark for April estimates collections will total more than $3 billion, an increase of $269 million, or 9.8 percent, over April 2014. Month-to-date collections total just over $1 billion.
