Microsoft has chosen the Boys & Girls Club of Worcester to pilot the company’s Learning, Accessibility, STEM and STEAM instructional technology tools.
In a Tuesday press release, the club said 30 of its members have been selected to participate in the pilot, which includes tablets, one-on-one instruction and personalized learning techniques.
Subjects will include reading, digital inking for math, science, and learning accessibility tools to meet the needs of diverse learners, including English language learners, special education students and students with disabilities.
Students will be trained in STEAM-based programs including Minecraft, OneNote, Edge and Sway. STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, art and math.
Students will also be exposed to Tinker, a coding platform for young learners, which will also give students the opportunity to use a 3D printer.
“We are grateful to Microsoft for allowing our club to introduce these tools to our community. Education should not be a one-size-fits-all, so we are happy to be piloting learning and accessibility tools that will address kids learning challenges as well as amplify their strengths," said Executive Director Liz Hamilton.
