A University of Massachusetts Medical School professor who discovered the first microRNA has joined the scientific advisory board of RXi Pharmaceuticals Corp. of Worcester.
Victor Ambros, a professor of molecular medicine at the university, is known for the discovery of microRNA in 1993. He also served as Ph.D. thesis advisor to RXi’s founder, Dr. Craig Mello.
Ambros earned his Bachelor of Science and PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Before going to UMass Medical School, he taught at Harvard and Dartmouth.
