Mexican restaurant in Framingham to turn into marijuana retailer

The vacant former Taqueria Mexico on Route 9 in Framingham is proposed for a marijuana retail shop.
The same managers behind Leicester's Cultivate marijuana retail store are seeking to open a pot shop at a former restaurant on Route 9 in Framingham.
Rob Lally, an executive at Cultivate, has applied to the Framingham Planning Board for approval through Commerce Framingham Real Estate LLC.
The shop would open at a vacant 3,600 square-foot building at 250 Worcester Road that was formerly home to Taqueria Mexico and before that, the computer store PC Healthstop.
The Planning Board is slated to hold a public hearing on the application Thursday night. The project will require a special permit because of a proposed reduction in the number of parking spaces.
The pot shop is allowed by city bylaw, according to the application.
Commerce Framingham Real Estate LLC, the owner of the property and the applicant, is registered to the address in Leicester where Cultivate is located. The entity bought the building last month for $1.15 million, according to the Middlesex South Registry of Deeds.
Cultivate and New England Treatment Access in Northampton were the first two pot shops to open on the East Coast when they began sales on Nov. 20.
