MetroWest STEM Education Network joins national alliance

The MetroWest STEM Education Network, which aims to prepare for students for jobs in science, technology, engineering and math in the region, has joined a national alliance with 67 other such groups.
The MetroWest network includes Framingham State University, Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University in Grafton, the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center, the MetroWest Chamber of Commerce and companies such as MathWorks, EMC and Sanofi Genzyme. Framingham State announced the news Tuesday.
The network was one of 12 nationwide that were most recently chosen to join the STEM Learning Ecosystems Community of Practice, which also includes STEM networks in Boston and on Cape Cod.
Benefits of being part of the broader international network include professional support for collaboration among local groups and shared insight from other STEM groups, the MetroWest network said.
MetroWest finds itself between two of the best metropolitan areas for STEM jobs, according to a study published in January by the financial website WalletHub.
Boston ranks second nationally, and Worcester 18th. The rankings were based on the number of job opportunities, local educational attainment in STEM subjects, and wages for STEM workers.
