MetroWest Projects Get Federal Funds

Business planning projects in areas including Millis and several communities in the MetroWest region have received a combined $550,000 federal grant.

The funding comes through a Sustainability Communities Regional Planning Grant given to the Metropolitan Area Planning Council by the federal Office for Housing and Urban Development.

In downtown Millis, the money will fund a financial analysis of mixed-use redevelopment possibilities for a vacant site, including an affordable housing component.

Another project included in the grant is an effort to plan for the production of housing in suburban parts of the MetroWest area. That project also includes the creation of a new multi-town Community Development Corporation that will focus on the development of housing.

All 11 projects included in the grant must receive final approval from HUD before moving forward.
