The MetroWest Accountable Healthcare Organization (MetroWest AHO), an alliance of more than 220 MetroWest physicians formed to negotiate with health insurers and payors, has received a $75,000 state grant to help the organization connect to the state health insurance information exchange, the Mass HIway.
MassHIway, a collaboration between the Massachusetts Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS) and the Massachusetts eHealth Institute, was designed to improve health care through better communication while reducing administrative costs.
By connecting with MassHIway, MetroWest AHO members will be able to exchange electronic health records with participating providers, including hospitals, laboratories, pharmacies, nursing facilities, physicians and insurers, according to MetroWest AHO.
"The MetroWest AHO physicians are happy to have been selected along with our hospital partner. The goal is to better coordinate care for the benefit of the patients that we treat. Creating a process that permits different electronic health records systems to communicate with each other in a secure and safe manner using the Mass HIway is a step in the right direction," said Bethany Gilboard, president of MetroWest AHO.
