MetroWest Medical Center has signed a clinical affiliation agreement with Boston powerhouse hospital Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center that will strengthen the clinical services at MetroWest hospitals.
“This affiliation will bring substantial benefits to patients and families in the western suburbs. MetroWest’s two community hospitals will continue to provide quality care close to home with the capacity of serving patients with more complex needs at our academic medical center in Boston,” Kevin Tabb, MD, President and CEO of BIDMC said in a statement.
The two organizations will work together to enhance services including primary care, oncology, surgery, and obstetrics and gynecology, according to a release from MWMC, and will also link the two systems' medical records. The agreement will improve access for MWMC to specialists at one of the nation’s leading academic medical centers, according to Barbara Doyle, CEO of MWMC.
MWMC includes Framingham Union Hospital in Framingham and Leonard Morse Hospital in Natick. MWMC will remain an independent organization with its own community board and local governance.
The agreement also covers the Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians (HMFP) at BIDMC. This physician group has more than 1,200 Harvard Medical School faculty members and will help round out the continuum of care for patients, according to Dr. Stuart Rosenberg, president and CEO of HMFP.
