Completion of parking renovations at Worcester’s Mercantile Center are roughly a year away as the effort moves into Phase 6.
The parking for the downtown commercial buildings that house businesses such as Unum and The Telegram & Gazette is set to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2017, according to a newsletter property owner Franklin Realty Advisors sent out last week. While the new phase of renovations marks the opening of all parking on the second level of the garage, it does mean restrictions to level 1 and lower level 1 parking, according to the announcement.
The parking is part of ongoing work at Mercantile Center, which was purchased by Franklin Realty Advisors last October for $32.5 million. At that time, renovations were priced out at $36 million by the company.
In June, it was announced that a two-floor, 30,000 square-foot construction project had been completed for tenant Nationwide Insurance. Another recent announcement for the owners of the commercial buildings known as Mercantile Center was that the Rhode Island office design and furniture firm Sheehans will open a new 5,000-square-foot showroom in downtown Worcester by January.
