The former Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles lot at 611 Main St. in Worcester is under agreement for sale by Washington D.C. developer The Menkiti Group for $2.5 million.
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation opened a request for proposals in the fall after the RMV site closed and moved to a location off Sunderland Road and Route 20 in Worcester.
Menkiti has executed a purchase-and-sale agreement for the property and is in the process of due diligence prior to finalizing the sale, according to a proposal the developer submitted to redevelop the nearby Denholm Building on Main Street in Worcester.
According to a Feb. 22 email from Judith Reardon Riley, a MassDOT spokeswoman, the property is under agreement with a developer for $2.5 million. Reardon did not name the developer.
A spokesperson from Menkiti Group said the company could not comment on the sale or redevelopment of the RMV property.
In addition to proposing to redevelop the Denholm Building property, The Menkiti Group has several development properties downtown including the Chatham Lofts, the former Shack’s building, and a mixed-use building at 554 Main St.
So exciting for downtown Worcester that has so much potential.
