The Medway Housing Authority has been awarded a $239,250 Resident Opportunity and Self-Sufficiency grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to fund service coordinators, according to a Tuesday HUD announcement.
Medway was the only Central Massachusetts housing agency to receive the funds, part of $1.8 million in ROSS grants distributed statewide, and $36.9 million doled out across the country.
The funds will be used to hire and retain service coordinators tasked with helping public housing families meet their professional, financial, health and educational goals, per HUD. Coordinators work with seniors and people with disabilities to ensure they get the medical care and social support required to help them stay and age in place.
“We are excited to work with our local housing partners to help public housing residents find jobs and opportunities that will propel them forward,” said HUD Secretary Marcia Fudge, in a statement.
Other housing authorities in Massachusetts receiving ROSS funding include Newton, Falmouth, Quincy, New Bedford, Norwood, Plymouth and Maverick Landing Community Services, Inc. in Boston.
