Biomedical Polymers' new Sterling building
Gardner-based manufacturer of plastics for medical use Biomedical Polymers is opening a 79,000-square-foot facility in Sterling after purchasing the building for $5.1 million.
The company purchased the 16 Chocksett Road property in Sterling last month, according to property records.
The facility will allow the company to increase its clean room capabilities, quality control lab, injection blow molding, tool room and office space, President Michael Faulkner said in a press release from real estate brokers Kelleher & Sadowsky.
The facility is nearly three times larger than its current 24,000-square-foot building on Linus Allain Ave. in Gardner.
“This increase in space will also allow us to attain our vision of enhancing our secondary operations that include sonic welding, automated assembly, robotics and printing,” he said.
The property appears to be nearly turn-key ready for a medical manufacturing use, as it was previously occupied by medical device contract manufacturer SMC Limited. The Wisconsin-based company in 2015 closed its the location in Sterling along with one in Leominster to consolidate its Massachusetts operations in a 210,000-square-foot facility in Devens.
The Sterling facility includes four loading docks, a Class-8 cleanroom and 7,000 square feet of office space on nearly 8 acres of land.
It’s unclear if Biomedical Polymers will continue operating in its Gardner facility.
