The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority will temporarily eliminate its local Framingham trains and alter its Worcester express services due to staffing shortages related to the surge in COVID-19 cases, according to a Thursday announcement from the MBTA.
On the Framingham-Worcester Line, Framingham local trains will be cancelled and Worcester express trains will make additional stops.
Express trains from Worcester’s Union Station, including the 502, 504, 506, 523, 525, and 527, will now make extra stops to serve travelers between Framingham and Boston. The Worcester express line will now stop at Newtonville, West Newton, Auburndale, Wellesley Farms, Wellesley Hills, Wellesley Square, and Natck.
The change will begin Monday, per the alert. There is no change to the Worcester Line weekend schedule.
The new schedule is an amendment of October’s winter schedule and will remain effective for an initial period of two weeks subject to weekly review.
“Normal train service will resume when workforce availability allows,” the announcement said.
CORRECTION: A previous version of this story stated the train from Worcester to Framingham would be eliminated. Framingham trains are temporarily canceled, but the Worcester line will continue running.
