Worcester incubator Massachusetts Biomedical Initiatives has entered a sponsorship with Thermo Fisher Scientific in Waltham, which will support an updated and state-of-the-art instrument suite at the Worcester startup hub.
Thermo Fisher will house a suite at MBI with advanced research equipment to accelerate research and development for MBI companies, according to a Wednesday press release from MBI.
“Bioincubator organizations like MBI play a critical role in this industry by equipping researchers with the necessary tools, support and laboratory space required to ignite scientific discovery,” Kim Baltier, vice president of global commercial operations, biosciences at Thermo Fisher, said in the press release. “Through our agreement with MBI, Thermo Fisher proudly supports their tenants’ important work that is focused on pushing the boundaries of science in a way that could lead to new approaches to treat, cure or prevent disease.”
The updated equipment will include a fluorescence-imaging system, a real-time PCR system for molecular and DNA research, and access to technical support and supply centers.
The sponsorship is part of MBI’s $6-million capital campaign, which aims to build out its biomanufacturing incubator. The amount of Thermo Fisher’s sponsorship was not disclosed.
