May unemployment rate steady

The nation's unemployment rate remained steady in May at 4.5 percent, as job gains in the health care and food services industries offset a loss in manufacturing employment, according to the U.S. Labor Department. Nonfarm employment added 157,000 jobs last month, while average hourly earnings rose 6 cents. Monthly job growth has averaged 133,000 this year.
