MassHousing has granted $700,000 in COVID-19 relief funding to 31 nonprofit providers of affordable sober housing, the agency announced on Thursday, including six recipients in Worcester and one in both Shrewsbury and Oakham.
Central Mass. recipients include Dismas House, OHDM New Man Ministries, Veterans Inc., Jeremiah's Inn, Abby's House, Latin American Health Alliance in Worcester, as well as Veterans Inc. in Shrewsbury and Dismas House Family Farm in Oakham.
The money is intended to help ensure financial stability and continued support services for more than 660 men, women and women with children who are combating addiction. The money will be spread out over 17 communities in the state, the agency said.
Grants were earmarked for up to $25,000 a piece and were awarded to sober housing providers who had previously received financing from MassHousing. The funding specifically came from the Center for Community Recovery Innovations, Inc., a subsidiary corporation of MassHousing working to increase, improve and support affordable sober housing for those in recovery in Massachusetts, according to the agency.
