The MassHire Central Region Workforce Board has received a $225,000 grant to help provide commercial driver’s license training and placement services for 45 unemployed or underemployed workers, the agency announced on Friday.
The grant to the City of Worcester was part of a $2 million award from the Massachusetts Executive Officer of Labor and Workforce Development's Workforce Success Grants program, intended to support state residents with life circumstances making it difficult for them to be successfully employed.
“We know there will not be a one-to-one correlation between the jobs that people left and the jobs to which they return because of the COVID-19 shock,” said EOLWD Secretary Rosalin Acosta, in a statement. “Investing in programs like these is critical to helping workers and companies adapt to this ‘new normal.’”
The Worcester Job Funds also offers free CDL training for certain Worcester residents. The new $225,000 funding, according to a press release, is expected to work in concert with that program.
