MassBio, a not-for-profit organization in Cambridge focusing on the life sciences industry in Massachusetts, appointed State Sen. Joseph Boncore, a Democrat from the First Suffolk and Middlesex District, as CEO in an announcement on Wednesday.
Boncore will formally resign from the Massachusetts Senate as he begins his new role during mid-September, according to the release.
Boncore’s CEO position replaces Robert Coughlin, who led the organization for 13 years before joining JLL Brokerage headquartered in Chicago, as the firm’s strategic real estate advisor for life sciences.
When Coughlin departed MassBio in December, Chief Operating Officer Kendalle Burlin O’Connell was promoted to president and COO. Burlin O’Connell will remain in her role as president and COO as Boncore is onboarded as CEO, according to the press release.
“I look forward to working with Joe to advance and sustain Massachusetts’ leadership in the service of our 1,400+ members who are working hard every day to improve the lives of patients,” Burlin O’Connell said in the announcement.
