MassBay Community College’s practical nursing program has been ranked first in the state by a nursing advocacy organization.
The announcement about the Framingham-based program was made by the Wellesley school on Thursday. The school was awarded the ranking based on several factors, all of which reflect how well a program supports students’ efforts towards licensure and practice. One key consideration is past and present first time pass-rates of the NCLEX-PN, the required certification exam used by all state boards of nursing across the United States to assess a student’s competency.
According to MassBay, it has had four consecutive years of 100% first-time pass rate on the exam for its practical nursing students
In its assessment of the MassBay program, PracticalNursing.org said: “Students learn both theory and practice as part of the program, with clinical experiences taking place at area health are facilities to emphasize best nursing practices as they relate to direct patient care.”
The other area schools on the list were Mount Wachusett Community College from Gardner in third, Assabet Valley Regional Technical School in Marlborough in fifth, Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical School in Upton in ninth, Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester in 12th, Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical School in Fitchburg in 13th and Bay Path Vocational Technical High School in Charlton in 14th.
PracticalNursing.org describes itself as nurses helping future nurses and has been publishing its annual rankings since 2014.
MassBay offers a practical nursing certificate, as well as an associate degree in nursing and a certified nursing assistant certificate program.
